Summary: We got married at the Wedding Bells Chapel, located in the courtyard of the Alexis Park Resort.
Content: Planning our wedding for vegas was very stressful, only because you dont get to preview what you are getting until the day of, (I'd highly reccommend ponying up the couple hundred bucks for a one day stay to look at the chapels in person before you book, I saw alot of chapels online that were nice in a picture, but disgusting in person) We got engaged in november '05, and booked the chapel in august of '06. It was the only one I found that wasn't indoors and didn't cost a fortune. Jim, the only person you'll deal with, is a tricky guy, he reeeallly rubbed me the wrong way, one of those jaded vegas chapel people, seen a thousand brides and no one is special, not even your day, its just $$ to him, I think. We arrived vegas and the first thing I wanted to do was view the chapel, I was SO happy to see it was nice! Totally beat my expectations, and it wasnt even setup. The chairs are different than the ones on this site (much nicer) and they put fake grass in around the seating area (much better than the real stuff that had bald spots) I had originally hired an outside officiant because I spoke with the wbc's and she doesnt do personal ceremonies, or read other peoples words, very generic and not my style. Well I conversed with this outside guy for months, even up to a week before the weddng, he said call me when you get to vegas, and finally when I got to vegas, no emails, no phone calls, no answer at the number given, nothing, I couldnt get a hold of my officiant, he was a total flake. I was a wreck, crying in the room where I was getting ready, especially after I spoke with the wbc's lady and she kept telling me she doesnt do the ceremony I wanted. About 7:50, the wedding started at 8, my friend comes into the room and tells me we now have 2 officiants, the wbc's officiant, and a backup of the original one I hired. So, pissed off as I was, I was SOOOO relieved he showed. He performed a wonderful, beautiful ceremony. Lots of humor and sweet words. The wbc officiant was older, VERY short, wore a white wig, and had fake eyelashes on.....She was sweet but not my idea of someone Id want to marry me. The gazebo was GORGEOUS, all of the candles and christmas lights were so romantic, exactly what I dreamed it would be. It was very windy the night before 40+ mph winds, and still windy all day of the wedding, but when I walked down the isle, the wind was no more, and all I could see was the watering eyes of my new husband, waiting for me at the alter. I had 22 guests, 3 bridesmaids, 2 groomsmen, all of my closest family and friends were there, it was amazing! We even had dinner right there at the alexis, they have a restaraunt in the lobby/pool area that was small, and had no other guests in it at the time of our dinner. It was PERFECT! We had a romantic mini reception! The food was great, cheap, drinks were VERY CHEAP, the staff was great, even though we kept them working an hour after they closed. All in all, the chapel was wonderful, the photagrapher was so-so, some pics are blurry, (she even said she has done 100's of weddings but actually cried at ours!) but I got 52 pics all on my own disc to print out how I see fit, the dvd was blurry through half of the wedding, in and out of focus, but you could still see and hear us...I paid and extra 100$ (required) for the pics and dvd. I also paid an extra 50$ when I booked the chapel for extra time for my ceremony and pics in the gazebo, I didnt want to be rushed. I highly reccomend hiring your own officiant unless you want the generic vegas ceremony, and having a backup photog, just a friend who knows how to handle a camera. It was unforgettable.
