If you are looking to have that typical Las Vegas wedding at an atypical chapel this is the place for you. The Little Church of the West provides a quickie Las Vegas wedding without forgoing all of the traditional chapel feeling. If you can forgive its old exterior in exchange for its historic charm this chapel is a lovely Little Church of the West.
Moved three times since it was built in 1942, the Little Church of the West is a Las Vegas historic monument. The church’s historic status ensures that it will always be around for you to renew your wedding vows there. However, the church’s appearance reflects its age. This all wooden church provides some quaint charm with its stain glass window and simple decorations. The church is not the typical gaudy Las Vegas wedding chapel, but instead a mix between an old farm house and a log cabin.
The Little Church of the West seats about fifty guests on its wooden pew style benches and was decorated with simple white bows adorning the end of each row of benches. The windows were similarity adorned with bows and red and white flowers. I was told that these were the Christmas decorations and they change with the seasons.
Also unlike many of the other Las Vegas wedding chapels, the Little Church of the West has lush greenery surrounding the church which makes for nice outdoor photo ops. There is also a beautiful gazebo located on the grounds of the church which can be used for photos.
Located at the South end of the strip, the Little Church of the West is easily accessed and doesn’t have the ghetto surroundings of many of the other Las Vegas wedding chapels. In fact, the church is so close to the strip you can hear traffic passing while inside the church. This may not be the case when the music is playing inside.
If you want to get married at this little piece of Las Vegas history, you should reserve your wedding ceremony as soon as possible. Required booking time varies anywhere from 1 year to 1 hour. Saturdays are its busiest day with about 40-60 wedding ceremonies taking place. This means less time for you to enjoy your ceremony. On busy days ceremonies are limited to 15-20 minutes and once your ceremony is over you may not re-enter the church for additional pictures. On slower days the management says couples can stay in the church as long as they like. I visited on a Tuesday and the church was empty.
The church provides you with a pastor to perform the marriage ceremony. The pastor performs a non-denominational service, but is flexible and will provide a ceremony that suits the couple’s needs. The Little Church of the West does not have an Elvis and is not the one stop shop that many of the other Las Vegas wedding chapels are. The Little Church of the West provides flowers, but dresses, tuxes, rings, and other last minute wedding necessities are not available. Limo service is provided with the two top tier packages.
Service Rating: 3
The staff of the Little Church of the West was similar to many of the other Las Vegas wedding chapels's staff and was both friendly and helpful.
One thing that made the service at the Little Church of the West wedding chapel stand out was that its owner is usually on the premises. In fact, the owner, Greg, jumped at the opportunity to tell me about this little piece of history.
Greg approached me and was thriled to discuss all of the ins and outs of the Little Church of the West. While at the church, I got the feeling that the staff would assist with any questions about the marriage cermony.
